First Team Donate Match Day Income to Solving Kids Cancer Charity…

This Sunday 27th September our First Team Ladies will be donating all match day income received for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The story of local girl Daya is inspirational in the fight against Solving Kids Cancer.

This is her Story….

Daya is a fun-loving smiley, cheeky, strong and resilient child.

Aged just 11 months, Daya was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, and then underwent two and a half years of treatment to battle the cancer. That treatment consisted of chemotherapy (nine rounds, including high-dose), extensive and life-threatening surgery, immunotherapy and radiotherapy.

She got through it all, usually with a smile on her face. Daya is now almost four years old, and several months into remission

Dayas family know neuroblastoma is an aggressive and complex cancer to treat. In May 2018, doctors advised that Dayas primary tumour was inoperable. The family successfully raised £362,000 for surgery in New York to remove the remaining neuroblastoma tumour. The operation at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center was performed by a world-leading surgeon and will give her the best chance of beating the disease.

Dayas campaign is kept open in case she needs additional treatment after surgery, to prevent relapse or get back into remission. That possible treatment may not be available through NHS funding and could cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The family also wants to help as many other children as possible. If Daya does not use the funds for treatment, all money raised will go to Solving Kids Cancer and their charitable work in funding research and supporting other families against neuroblastoma.

Dayas Fundraising Campaign

This September, for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we want you to take on Daya’s Burpee Challenge! We want as many people as possible to take on this challenge, burpees aren’t easy so we’re asking children and adults to set themselves the following goals.

Children – as many burpees as possible for 30 seconds or 1 minute

Adults – as many burpees as possible for 5 or 10 minutes

You can help us mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by choosing any date in September to complete your challenge. You can take part, donate, or set up a fundraising page, as an individual or get a team together to reach your burpee goal!
